A Panic at Coolah

The Wollar murders are reported to have been seen within 20 miles of Coolah yesterday. The town is in a panic, and a large meeting of townsmen including Messrs Matthews and Nowland, of Mudgee, have decided to wire for police protection.

The outlying settlers have deserted their houses and are stopping in the town at hotels, and private houses are packed. The stores have completely sold out of rifles.

A meeting is to be held this afternoon to form a town guard. The Governors are well-known here, and Jimmy Governor has been frequently in Coolah and it is feared he will visit persons with whom he has quarrelled.

Much more of the exploits of the Governors can be found in the book "Around the Black Stump." pages 92 to 97.
