The Gallery

An exhibition space devoted to the promotion and interactive engagement of visual arts for residents and visitors to Coolah.

Faciliated by CHATS (Coolah Historical Arts and Tourism Subcommittee) in partnership with Coolah's ‘Friends of the Gallery'.

Overview

Submissions are invited from artists wishing to exhibit in the Shire Hall Coolah Gallery. This gallery provides regional artists with the opportunity to exhibit in a regional town located along the Black Stump Way in the central west of NSW. Coolah is part of the Warrumbungle Shire, with a population of over 10 000, and welcomes numerous travellers and visitors to the area.

The gallery is a benchmark facility for smaller regional centres, providing exhibition space devoted to promoting regional art and cultural interest in rural communities, along with historical and visitor information. The Shire Hall Coolah is in the art deco style of the 1930s era, to which recent renovations have enhanced the personality and charm of the period. The Gallery interfaces with the town library, also located within the Hall. Sepia print enlargements of the local area circa 1942, photographed by renown photographer Max Dupain, are permanently mounted for public viewing in the library area.

Community volunteers, who are all interested in the promotion of a multi-function facility, manage the gallery and offer visitor and historical information services. The Coolah Gallery Working Group members are specifically involved with managing exhibitions.
