Coolah is the gateway to Coolah Tops National Park, one of the best kept secrets in New South Wales. The Park is home to rare flora and fauna and contains some outstanding botanical features such as giant grass trees and snow gums.
Coolah Tops is the Central West's only sub-alpine Playground, and has the biggest Snow Gums in the world, and the biggest group of the biggest snow gums
The town firmly stakes its claim as the home of the original Black Stump. It was here that the colloquial saying ‘beyond the black stump', meaning ‘beyond the limits of settlement or civilisation' is said to have originated. A replica Black Stump and Rest Area has been erected to mark this historic location. You can find the rest area 9 kilometres from Coolah on the Coonabarabran / Gunnedah road.
Coolah is situated on the picturesque Coolaburragundy River and nestled in a beautiful valley of the Liverpool Range. The town is surrounded by undulating hills and fertile river flats and has a reputation for its fertile farming land based on rich basalt soil.
Coolah is an attractive service town for the surrounding agricultural district with a population of 910. In 2006, Coolah won the NSW/ACT ‘Community of the Year' award!
For local visitor information, call into the Pandora Gallery located in Binnia Street. The Pandora Gallery has great visitor information and also houses a stunning collection of Max Dupain photographs. Entry into the Gallery is free. The building is also home of the Coolah Library which has internet facilities.
